Childhood cancer research is a real challenge...

Childhood cancers generally differ in type and biological behavior from cancers diagnosed in adults. Hence it should be recognized that children and adolescents are not just small adults and that specialized treatments tailored to childhood cancers are needed. Also there is a need to develop targeted therapies specific for cancers in children. It is being increasingly recognized that many childhood cancers do have mutations and genetic abnormalities that can be a basis for developing targeted drug therapy and immunotherapies. These in future will not only improve the survival outcomes but also pave a way for less toxic therapies.
